So, I'm sitting in Randy's hotel (not actually "his hotel" but the Sheraton Universal where he's the GM and our temporary "home") trying not to go stir crazy. The kids have finished their daily schoolwork I make them do, I've finished my to-do list, Jackson is taking a nap and I find myself with nothing left to do, so I say to myself, "I should start a blog!" So here I am, starting a blog. I'm not sure I have anything interesting to say, but here I am saying it regardless.
The last few months have been a whirlwind that started with Randy getting relocated and, in turn, relocating our family to lovely Northern California with Randy as the GM of the Hilton in Emeryville and our family living in San Ramon. After living there only a month and a half, Randy dropped a bomb and told me the management company he works for was going to be replaced with another management company and we had some decisions to make. Either stay where we were and he would begin working for a new management company that he didn't know or take this new opportunity of running the Sheraton Universal with the management company he had been working for, where they knew and respected him. Ultimately, we chose the latter and decided moving back to Southern California would be the best in the long run, despite the fact that it would make our short term a wee bit crazy! So we packed our things, headed South and have now been living in the hotel for the past 3 and a half weeks while looking for a place to live.
I thought looking for a home would be the easy part but trying to find a good place to raise a family while still living relatively close to LA was more difficult than expected. But at last, we found a beautiful home in Valencia near a great school and we can't wait to move in...in just 3 short (read long) weeks from now. That will give me 2 1/2 weeks to get unpacked and ready for our little girl to join the Player clan. Yikes. It has definitely been an interersting few months but we've tried to use this experience to teach the boys that life is just one big adventure and we just need to enjoy the ride. They have reacted remarkably well with all the changes but I know we are ALL looking forward to being settled.
Living in the hotel does have its perks, though. For one, I can order room service whenever I want and I don't even have to clean up after. I just put the dishes outside and they magically go away. I am also enjoying the workout room immensely and find the elliptical to be my good friend every morning at 7. It's great exercise without being hard on my very pregnant body. Another perk is being so close to the fun things LA and Hollywood have to offer. Every weekend we've enjoyed something different and fun: Universal Studios, Santa Monica Beach, and last weekend was the LA Natural History Museum. (Not to mention being able to occassionally gawk at some pretty big celebs).
Crazy as our life is right now, the presidents and I are going to try and enjoy this adventure, both the one we're in now as well as the adventure that is life!
